A Trump announcement proposing an end-of-war process is a high and rising possibility. A political declaration after a Trump–Kim meeting is plausible. A complete treaty, detailed verification regime and durable economic settlement would require much longer negotiations.

Yet beneath the headlines lies a more uncomfortable question: Is this actually a peace agreement, or merely an operational pause between rounds of a conflict that neither side has truly resolved?

One of the more overlooked possibilities is that the Trump administration may not actually be pursuing outright regime collapse.

So far, the 200-troop deployment appears measured, lawful, and prudent. It supports stability without plunging America back into conflict, and its silence — the absence of leaks or bureaucratic sabotage — may be the most honest indicator that, for once, Washington’s defense apparatus and its commander-in-chief are aligned on both purpose and caution.
