The Department of Justice has already demonstrated the scope of its authority. The current question is whether those authorities will be applied consistently—or selectively.

If stepping down truly reflects responsibility, it should increase, not diminish, scrutiny: audits should expand, subpoenas should continue, institutional reforms should be enforced, beneficiaries of fraud should be named. Anything less converts resignation into absolution—and teaches future officials exactly how to escape the heat without ever facing the fire.
