THE HARVARD SALIENT: CONSERVATISM CLAWS BACK IN CAMBRIDGE

One of the highlights of any researcher/writer's day is (and always will be) the blind invitation to a cocktail party/launch/meet and greet. Especially when it is getting near to the end of tourist season. In that spirit we sent off one of our investigators to get "up close and personal" at the outreach party for the Harvard Salient, the university's premier conservative publication.

This was a crash course in harvard literary clubs for me. Openmindedness is always important as there are so many groups that bill themselves as "Conservative" and even "Repubican" and turn out to be neither. Plus coming from the actual home of most of the recent enemies of the state, Harvard University, one had to keep up one's guard.
Truth be told, I had the opportunity to meet a number of the contributors and took home and am reviewing a number of their publications and I must say.... other than having Dan Crenshaw to one of their events, the Salient may have the opportunity to bring rational, conservative thought to Cambridge.
"The original Salient was founded in 1981 and ceased operations in the 2010s. Since then, the percentage of conservative students on campus has dwindled to less than 8%, and only 1.4% of faculty are conservative. In the fall of 2021, we came together and revived the Salient to return dialogue and conversation to the oldest campus in America." Salient website
First, some of the stats as I have found them.
*The Salient actually operates out of a brik and mortar location
*It has an actual printed circulation (not to shabby for a college indie mag) of around 95k circulation
*An online subscriber presence of 5,226 (make it 5,227 when I can figure out where the subscription page is)
*It also has a sizable following on Substack to deal with more topical issues as the printed magazine comes out in a periodized fashion.
That aside, the topics that they are covering are well in the wheelhouse of what today's Conservative or "budding" Conservative would be reading. One of the first Issues I was directed to by staff was the 'Republic of Letters" Vol 1 #3. which is definitely one of the topics that I always feel need to be addressed and explored at more length since we have had this collision with Socialist Nihilism and Islamic apostasy. The lead off essay "Against Critical Thinking" by Cleanthes, delves into the topic in a way one does not equate with the current masters of the Ivy League let alone the DEI minions that they inspire.
I moved on to 'Home Front", "Prometheus Now" and "A Modest Proposal" all wtih more positives than negatives. (I assume you would have to contact the Salient to get back copies or goto their website to scan through the files.
Needless to say, this was all a pleasant surprise and one that, we would hope, will spread to the other bastions of Leftism giving the students a chance to open thier minds and engage in actual discourse rather than the brownshirt tactics that have befallen the halls of higher education.
